ABSTRACT

The core objective of the research was to assess the effect of the Mobile banking on the savings mobilization by cooperative societies at Boresha Sacco Eldoret.  The specific objectives that guided the study were:  To determine the effect of M banking on savings mobilization; to ascertain the extent to which M banking has increased the transactions recorded at the cooperative society under study and to find out the relationship between the M banking and savings mobilization. The study adopted a case study research design which primarily majored on Boresha sacco. Data was collected by use of questionnaires and interview schedules. Data was presented in form of tables and figures. The results reveal that mobile banking transactions had a positive effect on the savings mobilization of Cooperatives in Kenya. This study therefore concludes that as a saccos increases its mobile banking coverage, this results in an increased number of transactions through their mobile banking platforms and therefore an improved savings mobilization.

The results also show that capital adequacy had a positive effect on the savings mobilization of Cooperatives in Kenya. This study therefore concludes that the higher the capital adequacy ratio in a bank, the more it is able to invest in mobile banking activities and thus the better the savings mobilization.

The study makes a number of recommendations based on the findings. Study recommends that the Cooperatives in Kenya should continue with the popularisation of mobile banking in the industry as this has a positive effect on their savings mobilization.
