ABSTRACT

This research proposal aims to investigate the effects of drug and substance abuse among teenagers in Eldoret, Kenya. With the escalating prevalence of drug and substance abuse globally, understanding its implications on the vulnerable population of adolescents is imperative. Eldoret, a vibrant urban center in Kenya, serves as the focal point for this study due to its diverse socio-economic landscape and the concerning rise in substance misuse among its youth demographic.

The proposed research will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to comprehensively explore the multifaceted dimensions of drug and substance abuse among teenagers in Eldoret. Quantitative surveys will enable the collection of statistical data regarding the prevalence, patterns, and correlates of substance use, while qualitative interviews will delve into the underlying motivations, experiences, and perceived impacts of drug and substance abuse among adolescents.

Through this research, we aim to shed light on the complex interplay of factors contributing to drug and substance abuse among teens in Eldoret, including socio-economic status, peer influence, family dynamics, access to resources, and support services, as well as the role of cultural norms and societal attitudes towards substance use. Moreover, the study seeks to identify potential interventions and strategies for prevention, early intervention, and treatment tailored to the specific needs and circumstances of the target population.

Ultimately, the findings of this research endeavor aspire to inform evidence-based policies, programs, and interventions aimed at addressing the scourge of drug and substance abuse among teenagers in Eldoret, thereby safeguarding their health, well-being, and future prospects, while fostering a supportive environment conducive to positive youth development and resilience.
